I just checked my USB stick and /sbin/cfdisk -l outputs: Disk /dev/sda: 1040 MB, 1040187392 bytes 32 heads, 63 sectors/track, 1007 cylinders Units = cylinders of 2016 * 512 = 1032192 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 * 1 1006 1014016+ 6 FAT16 I observe that my msdos partition starts at sector '1' while yours starts at '32kB', probably sector 32. That would mean that some kind of reserved partition takes up your first 32kB. Chances are it's for WinDos only you want to re-partition and re-format the stick using msdos FAT16. My 2c worth ...
