Mitchell, a quick description of WHY you don't recommend a product would go a long ways to promoting good discussion. As is, you are basically stating an opinion - and one that is contrary to the findings of others on the list. How long ago did you encounter your problems? What distro(s)? What was your knowledge level at the time? etc....
My laptop, which just so happens to be a recent Acer, works "out of the box" with Kubuntu. It will work "out of the box" with most mainstream distros. If you install something like Gentoo, then yes you can expect to have problems - but that is EXPECTED, only cuz YOU have to configure the system to your likes/needs. The only Acer's I know of that *might* have a problem are the ones on the bleeding edge (technology wise) - but that goes for ANY brand. And Acer is not known for this approach too often.
