I have a recurring conversation with various non-technical users at my
work about free (as in free beer) software. Usually this conversation
surrounds AVG anti-virus for their home computers. It never ceases to
surprise me how many people refuse to use a free product because they
feel that in doing so they would have no recourse if something went
wrong. Even when I point out to these people that they've likely
accepted a EULA that has stripped them of all legal recourse prior to
installing the software, they don't care.

I don't know where this concept of "paid applications comes with
protection" comes from. very strange belief.
