Do all the machines return the same IP when you run host
www.contribs.org (nslookup on windows).
I am looking for DNS issues (are the /etc/resolv.conf files the same?)

Is there anything different in the traffic that they generate (compare
ethereal runs, tethereal can be handy on non-gui firewalls).

Just to be sure, iptables -L
It should look like this:
$ sudo iptables -L
Password:
Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target     prot opt source               destination

Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT)
target     prot opt source               destination

Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target     prot opt source               destination

Cheers,
