-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 The 1 gig T10 works with linux with the UMS firmware. I had nothing but problems with the 2 gig variant (Media Player 11 is horrible... there is simply no other word for it).
I am happily using an unmodified iPod nano on linux, managing playlists etc in Amarok. There was a little tweaking involved but no real show stoppers. gtkpod and and yammipod are other alternatives, but since I already manage my music in Amarok, they did not make much sense (I briefely tried gtkpod, but I was not all that happy with it). Personally, I would recommend any mp3 player that is capable of UMS (Usb Mass Storage) so that the OS is irrelevant. You will have the least number of headaches with these. Another not bad place to start is rockbox.org. This is a replacement firmware for many mp3 devices, more info can be found on their site. Since this firmware allows UMS access to your device, this is not a bad alternative.
