I forgot to mention this interesting tidbit. When I checked the
running processes, there was no firefox-bin active on the client.

Thanks for the tip on the more robust remote access. However, my house
is hardwired with Cat5 to a central Network panel (one of those Net
Tek HomeLink packages).
