Hello all, I'm stumped on this one so I'd like to invite yourfeedback. This is the first time I'm experiencing _this_ kind of (unexplainable) trouble.
Three (3!) D-Link firewall routers (wired, model DI-804HV) with linux firmware have died at a client's site in the past 5 days, each within 12 - 24 hrs of being installed. For several hours each appliance would work just fine, then, for some unknown reason, stop responding to requests at the Admin interface, stop forwarding requests to/from the internet. When hooking a computer directly to the the ADSL modem, no problem getting on the 'net. My preliminary diagnosis options: (1) power bump/surge; (2) static electricity discharge through the network cabling; (3) phone line voltage spike(?). Location: close to University Research park, power grid transformer in the back yard. Been using Telus ADSL for years without major problems. I'm about to put in an IPCop firewall -- trying to see if _it_ will survive in that environment. Am I overlooking something? I appreciate your comments & suggestions. Hendrik Schaink -- Hendrik M.
