I built a myth box back in April, and it works alright. I used a beta of Knoppmyth, and that was a huge mistake. I can't upgrade anything normally since using apt-get promptly uninstalls everything on the system. I'm pretty sure the new versions of Knoppmyth work a lot better, and the installation was very easy, everything except my remote "Just Worked." Configuring Myth takes forever, but only because it can do so much. Problems I've had with my Myth box: - mysql logging was on by default, and filled up the 5GB root partition every couple months, i just turned this off in /etc/ somewhere - ivtv driver locked up once or twice (after being up 24/7 for hundreds of days) - When the ivtv driver gets hosed, a couple other minor problems popped up (symlinks not being created properly in /myth/pretty/ for example) and if I didn't know Linux very well, it would have been a slightly more major issue (since I wouldn't have been able to play back over smbfs) - hauppage card overheated a few times when recording and the recording cuts out when this happens (box was left partially in the sun in the summer, and my router overheated as well) - Commercial skip gets hosed far too often when american commercials are poorly replaced by canadian ones - The hauppage remote partially conflicts with my TV remote! :( so i can't use all of its buttons - Burned DVDs can sometimes be choppy, but I think that only happened when the box was overheating in the summer - Using the web interface causes the tv playback to be choppy for a second or two sometimes (I did buy the cheapest possible CPU at the time) With that said, I couldn't go back to not having one. I like watching far too many weird shows that are hard to find elsewhere.
