Dell still sells laptops with serial ports. Their business line of laptops ship with one serial port (most of them at least, double check before you buy). I have engineering and electrician clients for whom the USB adaptors are not good enough (this is the short short answer). I have seen some PCMCIA cards that work OK. For me, the USB serial dongles work well enough for managing the odd switch/router, though there are still some quirks when compared to a more "real" serial port. VFX has (or had) some that work out of the box on Linux for very reasonable prices. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.3 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFFZKrGwRXgH3rKGfMRAvIFAKCb+pmTtJybD1ZeUhEu64M54rqaGgCglyn3 0MfQ2sgJtuV2esfPPRhSDSY= =wpfj -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ clug-talk mailing list [email protected] http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca Mailing List Guidelines (http://clug.ca/ml_guidelines.php) **Please remove these lines when replying
