The person that recommended the USB to Single RS-232 (he never tried the 
double RS-232) had good results using it. He just loaded the drivers and it 
worked - this was in a MS environment. Not sure of compatibility with linux.  
He did mention that they used them to communicate with radio equipment, data 
collectors, satellite equipment. They had tried several other makes and 
models with limited success.
