The following works in the latest Debian - maybe this goes for Ubuntu too?

Use the AlaCarte Menu Editor to add a New Entry to the Programming menu 
item.

Alacarte is under Applications -> Accessories.

In the command field you specify the path to say /usr/bin/<someexecutable>.

Best to check whether Nvu has a forum of faq with setup instructions and 
how or whether it works with Firefox.  Google is your friend.
