People were pretty align on tools until the topic of Flash came up. Several
months ago, there was a plan to do a workshop on transcoding of multimedia
files. Anyone want to do a talk on this subject and / or lead a workshop?

What exactly is your prefered method of streaming video then? The other
streaming options, such as Real Video, Windows Media, Quicktime, etc., are
all proprietary AFAIK. The nice thing about flash is that it's easy to
create and publish content, as Evan said, and it works without having to
deal with a bunch of messy plugins. I realize that there are options for
the other formats as well, but I find that the mplayer plugin does not
always work and Crossover Office is often less than ideal.
