While AVI, and MPEG are not open like Theora or OGG, a lot of tools for 
working with them are, and are mature/proven.  The FOSS tools for 
viewing flash/swf are coming along, but are not yet proven (disclaimer: 
  it's been a while since I tried the free flash viewers - so feel free 
to prove me wrong).

I would like to see Theora get more support.  If I knew my windows 
customers could view theora without any issues, I'd be using it solely. 
  But as is, my ideals here and reality are not quite aligned yet.  That 
doesn't mean I have to abandon my ideals though...
