It would be nice to use a board purchased in Canada, but I'm not
familiar with any, which makes setting up a workshop a lot more work
than I'm interested in doing.

You've got me there.  I've only ever used one PC/104 platform.
Generally, the driver should be portable, since the PC/104 bus is
essentially an ISA bus with a different connector.  However, I'm sure
there are exceptions.
