While it certainly possible to put a very small linux on the laptop, you would never get a good look and feel regarding Linux on that platform, The normal requirement would be 192 Megs of ram, 2-4 Gig HDD. So i would recommend the other system. The way it works is called dual boot, and first you need to shrink the windows partition first, that is defrag, reboot and defrag again. After these steps the Linux installer would be able to re-size the windows partition and install linux on the remaining free space. And don't forget to backup your stuff before you start shrinking the partition. Check clug.ca for the next installfest if you are afraid to do the installation yourself.
