Happy New Year Folks, I got an Epson Perfection V500 PHOTO scanner for Xmas. It is not listed on the SANE web site (I've filled out "the form for adding an unsupported device <http://www.meier-geinitz.de/tinc?key=rDoQ7lrj&formname=adddev>".) and xsane, under debian 4.0, can't find it.
So I thought I'd try vuescan. I downloaded vuesca84.tgz, unpacked it and copied the executable file vuescan to /usr/local/bin. When I enter "vuescan" in a terminal, as either robin or su, I get "vuescan: error while loading shared libraries: libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" But libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 is in /usr/lib. I've tried copying libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 to /lib, /usr/lib32, /usr/local/lib, and /usr/share but got the same response. I emailed Ed Hamrick (the developer of vuescan) but his reply was "Unfortunately, I don't know much about Linux libraries." I'd appreciate any advice. Robin Carter
