This is one bad mouthed article. It looks like a positive thing, but then, not really. Linus does manage kernel development, and as such has ultimate control over what gets done in the kernel, and how. The capabilities of the Linux kernel, specially the 2.6 branch are so profound, that one has to have an agenda of some sort to cast doubt about the profound superiority of the Linux kernel. Naturally addressing the general public, the author brings out a lot of perceived shortcomings , most of those are either stemming from the proprietary only nature of the subject, or the state of the majority OS settings and modus operandi. And a linux distro does not necessarily need to follow those. People can and do learn new things all the time, learning is painted difficult and unwelcome for a reason, and that is to underline and enforce vendor lock-in.
