I have seen this sort of problem before. It is related the bulb slowly dying, it is actually flickering - the Red/Green/Blue are measured in sequence from a mono-chrome sensor which is why it is giving strips. Your might gain some milage from replacing the bulb (or even just shaking it), but it's probably cheaper just to buy a replacement scanner. Don't forget to recycle the unit down Staple or the like....
