Hi Courtenay, Like you I am a Ubuntu user who just could not get used to the Unity desktop. I heard a lot of buzz about Linux Mint so installed it two months ago. I find it crashes a lot particularly when there is Flash but it also locked up my computer when using Simple Scan or Thunderbird. This frustrates me to no end because when your locked out of your keyboard what can you do except hit the power button? (I thought Linux on the desktop was supposed to be getting better.)
Unless Unity is drastically improved at next release I may be installing Lubuntu which uses LXDE or maybe Pinguy Linux which I have had good luck with in the past. Happy installing!
