I just went through this recently. Here is my experience:

I was using Fedora on an Asus Zenbook with Win8/UEFI, but due to Fedora's
kernel-of-the-week policy causing problems with VMWare Workstation, I decided
to try Ubuntu. Fedora installed with no problems. Ubuntu would not even boot
off the CD. What I eventually learned was that Fedora/Arch/OpenSuse (among
others) use a hack to get around UEFI secure boot. Ubuntu either doesn't use
this hack or doesn't have it implemented well. Fortunately the Zenbook has an
option to disable secure boot, but of course this breaks Windows 8. Apparently
if you disable secure boot (but leave UEFI enabled), run the Windows boot
repair utility, then install Ubuntu it works on *some* systems. Manually
renaming the Windows UEFI file to its original name apparently brings Windows
back to life on systems where Windows stopped booting after a linux install.

Anand.
