Hehe, exactly so did I. Besides, gtk2 packages et al. in ports or whatever package system were generally obsolete anyway. So, I went the manual route by following gtk/osx build notes from imendio.
Beware that an older MacBook (with an i945) has some limitations which make Clutter less fun to work with on this platform.
