For those of you who prefer to use different times than those built
into the spreadsheet for the completion of the various assessments I am
attaching an unprotected worksheet so that you can change the time value in
the calculation. For my own personal situation I changed several of
the time calculations, ie., I thought 15 minutes for a d/c
tracking/reentry form was a bit much.
If you click on the box that represents the total # of hours for each
assessment type you will see an equation similar to the one
below: The equation below is for comprehensive assessments
and the number in red represents 6 hours. If you feel it requires more
time you can should change that one number.

Do this for each of the equations and types of assessments. Be
very careful not to change anything else in the equation or it will not
calculate properly.
Remember this is a guide not an exact
science. There are multiple varying opinions on
the amount of time it takes to do the various assessments. Keep in
mind depending on the resident assessment completion times for the same type
of assessment will vary, as well specific facility practices.
In addition, there is no calculation for MPAF assessments, since these
are not reported on the MDS reports separately it would be difficult to
determine the # of those completed and submitted by looking at the state
reports. The current spreadsheet calculates 3 hours for the time to
complete a full assessment ( I actually used 2 hours as my est). Many
facilities do MPAFs for all Medicare only assessments, this may give you the
extra cushion required if 6 hours or 2.5 hours for the comprehensives or
quarterlies is not sufficient.
I used this spreadsheet to see if we were anywhere near close to
having an adequate # of people allocated to meeting the demands of the
RAI/PPS processes.
In addition to the assessment times I also factored in 10 hours a week
of non-MDS related time. Depending on your situation this may be too
much (highe unlikely) or too little.
