It needs to be assessed as a full side rail for potential to restrain that individual resident.  If it does, it is and if it doesn’t, it isn’t.  All you need is the paper trail with careplanning/documentation as appropriate dependant on team decision.  We have many residents who in decorating their rooms opt for bed against wall and it in no way restrains them however there are others eg fx hips/CVA’s where it could have a negative impact.  Just depends.
