I think DONs with a little bit of MDS knowledge are a dangerous thing. They usually have no clue.....

Just another reason I resigned my old position.  I could and would not work for a DON who had no idea of the MDS process or the regulations.  I wrote extensive notes in the progress notes stating that I felt it was a sig. change and had the verification to back it.  I also included that the team was against it also.  Go figure!!!!!  Thank heavens I do not have to deal with that now!

My question is this, who signs the mds, and who is going to get the blame for the write up from state if it is found you should have done the significant change.  Does your DON have any idea about the mds process.  But on the other hand, my DON thinks that I should be doing more significant changes on res.  even if there is not a significant change there.  I just show her the criteria from the mds bible, and she backs off for a while.  It is such a vicious cycle mds coordinators live with.  As Rodney Dangerfield once said "I don't no respect."

MY DON Doesn't like to me to do significant change MDS assessments if there are MDS items on there that will raise the QI's: example weight loss, wounds
