The CFR regulations under assessment and care planning indicate you must care plan resident needs form the moment of admission. This would include high risk problems, acute and unstable medical conditions, etc. The questions is: what is needed to care for the resident and meet standards of practice while you are completing the comprehensive assessment. The other "rule" to consider: whoever has the MOST stringent policy is the one you are obligated to follow. Therefore, if your policy is more stringent that the reg requirement, you would be held accountable for yours.

Subject: Initial plan of care

Can anyone direct me to a regulation about writing and placing a plan of care on the resident's chart within 24 hours of admission.  This is in our policy book but I cannot find the source of this regulation.  The RAI manual only states that we need Physician orders for immediate care to give instructions for care until the staff can conduct a comprehensive assessment and develop a plan of care.
Thanks
