Yes. This would be a significant weight loss coded in K3a. If you look at the explanation given in the manual under section K3a for new admission, it states, "Ask the resident and family about weight changes over the last 30 days and 180 days." Throughout the manual, it states "over the last 30 days and 180 days." You do not have to weight a month or 6 months to code a weight loss. If you have a significant weight loss that occurs within a week's time frame, then it is coded as such.

On 10/7 the patient was weighed again--the weight was 136(accurate). An assessment is done 10/8. There is a 10 lb weight loss, or 9.3%. Does this get recorded at K3a? Or do we do as the RAI Manual says, and compare the most recent weight only to a weight 30/180 days ago? Weight loss has been care planned, and interventions in place. Thanks. To admit you were wrong is to declare you are wiser now than before. --Unknown /---------------------------------------------------------- The Case Mix Discussion Group is a free service of the American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordinators "Committed to the Assessment Professional" Be sure to visit the AANAC website.
