Check out the www.osha.gov site, there are specific ergnomonic recommendations for staff safety, including gait belts, and mechanical transfers.  It is also our policy that Physical Therapy evaluate anyone who ambulates and we do use gait belts on anyone, unless it causes a behavior, then we specifically care plan for that.

Subject: PLease help.

Please help, is there any regulation that says that caregiveers in a nursing home should use transfer belts when transfering residents for example from w/c to bed or to commode, or during ambulation?  Thank you in advance. Bogda.
