Michelle,
Go back to 3-87. The following example is
listed:
"Miss W is cognitively and physically impaired
resident, she is on strict bed rest. Staff is unable to physically transfer
resident to toilet at this time. Miss W is incontinent of both bowel and
bladder. One staff member must provide all care for her elimination and personal
hygiene needs every 2 hours.
"Self Performance=4 Support Provided=2 Coding
rationale: Resident did not participate and required 1 staff person to
provide total care for toileting and personal hygiene."
The instructions include "changing pads", which I
have always interpreted as including briefs/pads/whatever absorbent incontinence
product is used.

Subject: section g-toileting
There seems to be a conflict of information regarding the coding for
toileting. Some staff believe that if the resident is on the check and
change program that they did not use the toilet. In reading page 3-93 it
states in toileting that the coding is for whether or not elimination
occurred. It also gives example's of using commode, bathroom , urinal
and etc.. It does not however, give example of attends. They are
not toileted in the sense that they are put on toilet, commode or
bedpan. They are totally incontinent. So would it be appropriate
to code and 8 here? Thanks.
