Thanks for input.  I was trying to explain the process to cna's and needed some back up help.
Thanks again.

I agree with Holly.  Also, if you look at page 3-77 under "toilet use" you will see that it states "Do not limit assessment to bathroom use only.  Elimination occurs in many settings and inclused transferring on/off the toilet, cleansing, changing pads, managing an ostomy or catheter, and clothing adjustment."
I think that the resident's briefs would be in the same category as changing pads.  The manual was written before briefs were common in  nursing homes.  This is one area that I have to reinforce to the CNAs often.  Toileting is one of the late loss ADLS and important in the ADL score for reimbursement.  I want to be sure that they are understanding this ADL and they often are confused by the words "toilet use" thinking that it only means the bathroom.  I printed a brief definition on our ADL sheet that states that it includes changing pad and briefs to help cut down on the confusion.

There seems to be a conflict of information regarding the coding for toileting.  Some staff believe that if the resident is on the check and change program that they did not use the toilet.  In reading page 3-93 it states in toileting that the coding is for whether or not elimination occurred.  It also gives example's of using commode, bathroom , urinal and etc..  It does not however, give example of attends.  They are not toileted in the sense that they are put on toilet, commode or bedpan.  They are totally incontinent.  So would it be appropriate to code and 8 here?  Thanks.
