A few facilities that I've worked for have had a rule that if the resident was new patient for the attending MD, and had not been seen by that particuliar MD previously, then they had to come in and see resident within 48 hours of admission. This would happen when the hospital doc did not follow residents once they left the hospital setting. I don't know if it was a "facility" policy or a reg.
