Title: Citrus Punch
WE HAVE RESIDENTS WAIVE THEIR MEDICARE RIGHTS ALOT.  SOME ARE MCD, SOME ARE PRIVATE PAY.  WE HAVE THEM SIGN A FORM STATING SO.    WE USED TO HAVE ONLY 21 MEDICARE BEDS, SO THE RESIDENT WOULD HAVE HAD TO HAVE CHANGED ROOMS.  MANY REFUSED TO DO SO.  NOW, ALL OUR BEDS (194) ARE SKILLED.  I THINK WE'VE ONLY HAD A HANDFUL WHO REFUSED THERAPY AND THUS REFUSED MEDICARE PAYMENT.

The stated reason was to "save days for later"... I do not think this is allowed. If the resident is skilled per the PPS assessment, then they are skilled...

What would the reason be for denying Medicare?  We have had a few residents deny Medicare because all of our beds were not certified for MCR and the resident and family thought that it would be detrimental to the resident to have to move to a new unit with new staff.  It was always an issue during survey but passed after the resident and family were interviewed.

If a resident is MCD and tube fed, can the family choose to waive MCR and have the resident be MCD? Or is this only an option for private pay residents?
