Grace days may be used to benefit the resident and show the true picture of what is going on with the resident. Look at the following scenario: you have a resident that was admitted and was fatigued and unable to do therapy on the day of admission. After therapy evaluates the resident the next day, they feel that the resident needs the amount of time that is reflective of a very or ultra rugs score and they feel that this would benefit the resident. You use grace days at this point. The point is you use grace days to benefit the resident and show a reflective picture of what is going on with that resident.

My understanding are that grace days are there to use in case someone is sick, res. or staff, or you are working around a holiday, or extenuating circumstances. It is my understanding also that if a facility is using grace days consistently it is going to bring up a red flag and will be looked into by surveyors.
