I'm not certain about three treatments a day to get
15 minutes, because we usually get 15 minutes to 20 minutes with each neb. tx,
depending on the amount of wahtever solution they're using. We usually
attach an Excel spreadsheet with the meds & minutes, etc. I'll attach
a copy here, but if you are long term care, it's a LOT easier to have the
pharmacy include the information on the MAR:
Name of med:
Time of
Administration:
Minutes given:
Ox Sat pre / post
For some reason, if it's printed on the MAR by
pharmacy. If not, it's a struggle to routinely get them done &
recorded.

In our facility for the 7 day assessment period we have an
assessment form they complete with each neb treatment during this time frame.
They need to be getting treatments at least 3 times a day in order for you to
get enough minutes as it has to be 15 min per day. The assessment includes
lung sounds, oxygen sats, # of respirations per min, pulse, c/o SOB, use of
accessory muscles. The nurse does the assessment before and after each
treatment. Linda

Section P - do the nurses in your facilities document actual minutes spent
administering Respiratory Treatments?
