I do not agree with this statement.
The PPS system does not suggest that you "cannot
bill for what you did not deliver". That's the whole point behind a
"prospective payment system."
Sometimes, you capture a RUG that accurately
predicts the resources that will be used. Sometimes, the resident's needs change
immediately after the ARD, causing more or less resources to be used.
Unless the changes meet the definition of a significant change, then you are
stuck with the payment level decided by the most recent assessment.
I would never modify an assessment under the
circumstances described, and I would certainly project minutes in Section T in
accordance with the instructions in the manual.

If the estimated therapy to be delivered in section T is not delivered
over the next 15 days, then you actually have to do a modification-you can not
bill for what you did not deliver. Best to reflect in sect. T only what you
now know was actually delivered. Is this poor soul an SE3
anyway? Michelle Witges <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

I don't think I gave enough info. Resident
admitted 1-23-04 all three therapies saw and evaluated and ordered
therapy. Pt was the only therapy given during the lookback period as
resident became ill and was unable to part. in any therapy after
1-24-04. He expired shortly after the ARD.
Now, is it appropriate to estimate therapy?

Is it appropriate to estimate therapy on the 5 day assessment if the
resident expired during the lookback period? I used to know the
answer to this. Thanks.
