I have noticed our doctors writing "respiratory infection" for a resident who came in
with pneumonia and who is resolving but still on ABT by the second week after
admission. So I have been coding pneumonia for the 5 day and respiratory infection for
the 14 day MDS. Of course, depending on the doctor they don't ALAWYS do this. If the
doctor continues to write that the resident is being treated for pneumonia, you have
to code for pneumonia until the doctor writes that it is resolved. I go by the doctors
progress notes.
