well good luck Lisa, sounds like you are going to need it.  I have been @ a couple of positions that have been vacant for a while and it was a nightmare. Kind of like "why did I take this Job?"  I don't know how big your new facility is or if the software can tell you who is overdue for assessments?  The first thing I did was to go thru each chart and see when the last person had an MDS done and were they overdue?  are they due next for a quarterly? annual?  I hate to take a lot of "lates"
@ one job but, at least I got caught up and stayed current.

hope that helps

Subject: Surveyors

Monday I started at a new facility knowing that I was walking into poop chest high.  MDs had not been done for the month of February.  90 minutes after walking in to a new job state showed up.  I was speechless.  MDS were a mess to put it mildly.  Example patient admitted in September ARD was 09/18/03, signatures on front were 01/30/04 and the close date 02/06/04.  Explain that to a surveyor!  Also they found an MDS ARD 12/19/03 that had been coded 8 on bathing.  When I looked at the CNA documentation, it clearly stated on 12/17/03 that person had got a bath and was a 4/2.  I copied that and then did a modification.  Luckily the surveyors knew that I had just started and I feel they were easy.  Obviously I got cited for MDS but I think it will be at an E level.  ANy words of wisdom to clear all this mess up would be appreciated.  Obviously due to coding errors I probably will be doing a lot of sig changes.  Upon looking at the history of the MDS it appears this nurse did modifications on almost every assessment she did.  Crazy!
