I would not code hot packs under Restorative.  I use the code of "other" under restorative for things like teaching a resident self meds, ostomy care, insulin injections, etc.

Subject: Restorative question

I have a question on restorative programs. Where I currently work some of the RNAC's that have been there for a while were told in the past that when the following items were done by the Restorative aide that they were to be counted as a program and placed under "Other" as long of course as they met the 15 minute/day criteria. These programs were Hot packs and strengthening exercises. The hot packs were being used prior to performing ROM either passive or active and the strengthening exercises were being administered alone. I have not credited hot packs as any restorative program any where I worked and as far as the strengthening exercises I did not code them as any other program I have always looked at them as part of the program for either transfers or ambulation. I am curious to hear what the rest of the group has to say.
