Yes the facility would get default if the ARD was not set prior to the close of the window. The facility and/or MDS coordinator needs to train someone to set an ARD for new admissions while the coordinator is gone. Better to have an ARD set that might not have been the 'best' ARD than no ARD at all.

Unfortunately if the MDS coordinator is pulled she must also keep one eye on the ARD's for residents and new admissions...for the same thing applies...if not set within the window then default.

The 'hands-on' look at the resident (ex. balance test) must be done within the lookback period...if no ARD was set then who did those hands-on prior to the close of the ARD?

What is the MDS coordinator to do when on vacation for 2 weeks and returns to find several new admissions that arrived while away from the facility?  The reality is that the facility waits for the MDS coordinator to return to set dates.  Is the facility to take default on all of the 5 day assessments for these admissions as 8 days have passed?  Many of us do not have anyone to cover for the coordination of assessments.

A similar scenerio includes the periods in which the MDS coordinator is pulled to do other duties in the faciliy.  Grace days are accepted for this instance but what if the assessment window has closed?  Again defaults for all assessments?
