I have a question.  How many MDS coordinators are in facilities compared to number of residents?  Thanks in advance.

Hi.  I am in a 220 bed facility with 4 MDS coordinators (it used to be 3) and all our beds are dually certifed.  Our PPS population ranges low from 10-20 a month.  We are inner city.  Up until recently, we only had one LSW, with 2 on occ.  It was a nightmare.  Now we have 4, which is so much better.  As far as MDS goes, the 4 of us split the building with assigned floors.  So do the other departments.  We have a dietician who is awesome and does the entire building.  She isn't an RD but she may as well be.  She is the best at keeping up on labs, feeding issues, dialysis, wts, ect.  The NAC's are responsible for all sections except: E,F,G,H,K,N, and Q.  We are also responsible for the Admit POC (interim in 1st 24 hrs), Braden, Aims, Psych Consults, Certs, Foot Assessment, Pain, and Dental Assessments.  We also end up doing a lot of performance improvement plans (pips) for nursing and then have to do the audits.  SS does E & F& Q, Restorative does G & H, Dietician does K, and Activities does N.  Thats how we do it.
