Hi Betty. Here is
an excerpt from the new manual at this site:
20.2.3 - Readmission to a SNF (Rev. 1, 10-01-03) A3-3131.3.C, SNF-212.3.C
"If an individual who is receiving covered post-hospital extended care, leaves a SNF and
is readmitted to the same or any other participating SNF for further covered care within
30 days of the last covered skilled day, the 30-day transfer requirement is considered to be met."
Since your patient was
in a 30-day window period after discharge from your SNF, he returned with
skilled orders and skilled need, yes, he qualifies to continue his benefit
period.

RN

Have a question for clarification. We have a resident who was d/c'd from
hospital after qualifying stay on 2/11/04 and admitted to our facility. On March
18 he was adamant about being d/c'd home with a family member and H.H. Between
3/18 and 3/26 he was a frequent flyer between hospital E.R. and his physician,
so he came back to us for further rehab. The manual states "admission for
SNF-level services within 30 days of discharge from an acute care stay". Does
the fact that he was here from 2/11-3/18 have any influence?
Thanks for the assistance
Betty H.
