If a patient
is hospitalized within 60 days of when he went of Medicare A, he is again
qualified for Medicare A but he doesn't get a new 100 day period. He
resumes the first benefit period & if he had used 40 days he would have 60
left. Hope this helps.

Subject: Re entry after discharge return not expectedHave a question for clarification. We have a resident who was d/c'd from hospital after qualifying stay on 2/11/04 and admitted to our facility. On March 18 he was adamant about being d/c'd home with a family member and H.H. Between 3/18 and 3/26 he was a frequent flyer between hospital E.R. and his physician, so he came back to us for further rehab. The manual states "admission for SNF-level services within 30 days of discharge from an acute care stay". Does the fact that he was here from 2/11-3/18 have any influence? Thanks for the assistanceBetty H.
