Is everyone aware that when you code a SIgnificant
Change of Status assessment for a Medicare resident, you should code AA8b =
8 unless you are combining the Sig Change with a regularly scheduled Medicare
assessment (ie 5-day, 14-day, etc)?
Even though the OMRA is usually used to indicate
the end of therapy, CMS wants the Sig Change coded this way so they know to
apply a new RUG score. The system did not have a way of indicating that this
assessment was going to be used for PPS, so they decided to use AA8b=8 to show
this.

May I have a copy of the letter too? Thank you in advance!
Faye, I just read your note to Betty, if it's not too much to ask can
I also get a copy the letter, but only if you"re not inundated with
requests,fax# is 914 2328346..Thanks so much, Janice M.
Christine faxed
me a copy of the letter they use and it is perfect for setting the stage
for predictable pauses in skilling/therapy r/t weight bearing status,
waiting for stumps to heal/prosthetics to arrive etc. I know we are
going to use it. I could fax you what she sent me if you want.
Just send me your fax number. This is just another example of how
valuable this site can be-is it not?

We have
never done this, what we do is try and get them to upgrade weight
bearing at ortho appt. Occasionally we have had to use Part B if
longer than 30 days.

PT
has discharged a resident r/t no increase in weight bearing status
(post fx with ORIF) and she has plateaued. We had to cut her
from MED A r/t no other skilled service. IF she does not get
increased weight bearing before the 30 day window for restarting
PT/MEDA expires can we apply the delayed PT exception to this
situation if the d/c order for PT states to resume therapy at a more
appropriate time?
