questioning section K5a Parenteral/IV -
page 3-153 Parenteral/IV - ... Do not code IV "push" medications. Do
include the IV fluids in IV piggybacks. IV medications dissolved in a
diluent, as well as IV push medications are captured as IV medication in P1ac.
...
Order that reads: D5W with 20meq KCL and the
hospital MAR indicates that during one day of the assessment period 368cc was
infused per IV. I have been told that we can only count the KCL medication
in section P1ac as the 368cc of fluid was only used as a diluent for the
KCL.
We did mark section P to capture the IV medication,
but the question is can we count the fluids used to administer the IV medication
as IV fluids?
Bee B. See page
3-153. it says to count the diluent that an IV medication is dissolved
in.
