I think the main point to make to him is that many people - the  majority,
actually - who undergo SCT (transplant), are not really "done with it," in
the sense that the majority of those who survive the procedure and have no
recurrence, still have some residual symptom - chronic GVHD, and a bunch of
other symptoms that can be far more debilitating than the side effects of IM
are for most of us. Of course, some people get lucky and have no long term
symptoms, but this is true with IM as well.
