I am sorry to hear about Bob and I hope he will be able to make a lot of
improvement. That sometimes can be a slow process but is sometimes
possible.

Hi, everyone,
Sorry I haven't posted for a while. We've been very busy with
doctor appts, etc.
As most of you know, Bob is in MR, thanks to God and the BMS drug.
We are so fortunate to have the expertise from UCLA, Drs. Sawyers, Shah and
Paquette.
But, unfortunately, Bob has other medical problems now. He has
suffered some strokes and can no longer communicate very well. His
memory is affected, his speech, etc. He has problems remembering how to
dress, how to put in his dentures and other things. Thankfully, no paralysis
is involved. The affected part of his brain is the parietal left
lobe. The strokes were found on the MRI. Don't know
exactly how many he had, but at least two. He had symtoms back during
the summer and he was dx'ed with Mild Cognitive Impairment. It got worse
very quickly, much faster than Alzheimer's or dementia would have. And
again, we thank God that those were not the diagnosis. We went back to
the dr a couple weeks ago and all the tests were done.....MRI, echocardiagram
and duplex carodid artery sonogram. The two "grams" were negative, in
other words, the heart and the artery did not cause the strokes. Probabl
y just getting older. It is absolutely NOT caused by the BMS drug.
Bob has been prescribed Aricept (for memory) and low dose aspirin. We
have to wait for approval for the aspirin from BMS, but Dr. Sawyers is
diligently working on getting that. The aspirin is supposed to
help stop any future strokes, since it will thin the blood.
So that is what is happening with us. We will go day by
day.......some days are better than others and with the help of family and
friends and mostly God, we will overcome this little obstacle too.
Thank you all for all you do for us. I'm sorry I have not kept up
with all the good news, but I send hugs and best wishes to everyone and love
and hope to all, too.
