Cheryl,
Thank you very much for taking time to write back to me, I will share your email with him tonight, since he is still hesitant to join the group because he is still in the denial stage, I am here because I want to learn as much as I can and when he asks me what new information I have learned I share it with him, I don't nag him with it or tell him I read all the email because I want to ask when he is ready, and hopefully he will join this group soon, because it has helped me and it will certainly help him more, I admire every single person in this group and makes me appreciate life 100 times more before, you are all very special to me even though I don't know you personally, everyone in this group contributes to the strength I have built in staying positive for Marcus, if only there was a way I could make him snap out of saying, when he reaches 0% then he will start living again, but then he is entitled to feel however he wants to feel but I really wish I could find a way to make him smile again...Thank you again, to you and everyone in this group who has responded to my emails.  Zavie, I will extend that offer to Marcus.  Thank you too!

Hello Yoli,

I can understand your boyfriends frustration.  It isn't very helpful
or reassuring if his doctor doesn't try to make sure if Marcus
understands the situation before letting him live his office. It
might be a good idea for your boyfriend to consult with a CML expert
if at all possible.  They will definetly take more time with him to
help him understand CML and how he can live well in spite of it.

I am not a doctor, but from the little bit of information in your
post, it looks like Marcus is responding well to Gleevec.  The first
sign is that his WBC's are in the normal range.  Of course, we would
have to know what the rest of his counts are in order to declare it
a hematological remission.  Did his doctor give him a copy of the
CBC (complete blood count)?  If those values are all in the normal
range then it means that he has had a hematological response and
that is the first step.  From the other number you provided I can
see he's had a  good cytogenetic response, which is another
indication that Gleevec is working good for your boyfriend.

The depression is a big concern and hopefully you can help him to
look into seeking professional help.  He shouldn't have to suffer so
terribly with it.  Having CML myself I do understand what the shock
of this diagnosis can be, but he's got a lot of more living to do
and there is so much to be hopeful for.

It looks like your boyfriend is on the right path to achieving a
good response with Gleevec, so hopefully the depression will not
keep him from enjoying his success in living a long life with this
disease.

Hope some of this has helped and please keep us posted,

Cheers,
Cheryl-Anne

with the results of his bmt after 3 months of 400mg of Gleevec, his
wbc is at 5,000 from 128,000 when first diagnosed in September of
2004, his doctor said his bone marrow tests show 44% cml from 86%,
what does this mean exactly, is this good, fair, we both don't
understand and the doctor didn't explain it to him, can someone tell
me, Marcus is very upset, he's angrier by the day and is so
depressed he can barely get out of bed, I don't know what to do.
