Hi Penny,

(I am a Penny to).  Side effects should go away with time.  Believe it or not, change of eatting habits does change the way you can feel.  High protein, less carbs does help alot.  Never was one for dieting but I watch what i eat, try to stay away from pasta, rice, white bread and i believe it does help.  Still even after 2 years I have puffy eyes but not to bad.  Had the rash, really really bad, thought I was going to have to get off of Gleevec, but stuck it out, with alot of help from the board.  Didn't have nauseau, but did have leg aches, bad real bad, could hardly move, I would take aleve and then, honestly one day they just disappeared.  I still have though charley horse in my calfs from time to time, my toes cramp up and my fingers, but if that is it, I can deal with it.  Everything else is good.  Sometimes I do get tired, but I just keep on going...Procrit or Eprix will help his RBC or HGB which will give him more energy, ask yourdoctor about that.

HOpe this helps a bit and hope your son feels better soon!

These are the side-effects that most of us have. I also have been on 600mg
of Gleevec for almost 4 years. I don't like the puffy eyes in the morning
and the thin skin which causes me to always be cold and have to have
band-aids all over. However, you do get used to it. I have had no bone pain
and no cramps since taking a good multi vitamin and extra calcium,
potassium, and magnesium. You wonder what is really happening with our
bodies. Beats the alternative, though.
