I am sorry what you've been experienced Pat. How much of Gleevec (mg)are you taking?  I had this side effect of heart rate increase at the beginning of my treatment. And due to other side effects I had to reduce my dosage from 400 mg to 300 mg. for six month. Most of the side effect went away by time and I am back on 400mg. Even though if  what happening to you is side effect, I will still go to a specialist and check heart condition.
Take care and wish you feel better soon. Keep us posted.
God Bless

Hello Friends
I apologize that it has been a while since I've
posted. I do still read posts daily to keep up with
what is going in everyone's lives. Congratualtions to
those of you reaching remission or celebrating years
of remission. Congratulations to Penny on the birth of
her grandchild. A warm welcome to the newbies, and I'm
so sorry for those of you newly diagnosed, but glad
you found our support group. There are some wonderful
people here and tons of info.

Anyway, to give you an update on my situation, I
missed my appointment this month so I don't know how
much closer I have gotten to remission but last visit,
only had 69 copies out of 100,000 on my PCR test.

I am still having trouble with appetite. I have lost
more weight, down to 121 pounds. I weighed 139 at
diagnois. In spite taking lexapro for depression, I
have slipped into a severe depression. If everyone can
recall, I was suffering from depression for a year
when  I was seeing this transplant doctor who kept
telling me I was not responding to the Gleevec and
pressuring me to have transplant and telling me I was
going to die without it. As I've stated before, I had
decided against the transplant and so thought for many
months, I was going to die and it was just a matter of
time. In February of this year, I started seeing a CML
specialist and learned that I was responding to the
Gleevec and this doctor said there was no need for
concern about a BMT at this time. I was totally
relieved and started to feel somewhat better mentally,
but I think that year of constant fear really took
it's toll on me. Along with that, I am in constant
stress due to my son and his mental issues and drug
problems which is really taking me down now. My
Gleevec symptoms still have not subsided. I am
constantly fatigued and the dirrehea is horrendous. I
have to force myself to eat, and what I do eat sends
me immediately to the bathroom as soon as it hits my
stomach in spite of the extra dosage I take of
lomotol.

I'm also having a racing heart...pulse rate always 100
or more. Even upon first waking up in the mornings, my
heart rate is anywhere from 100 as high as to 126. It
beats so fast, I can actually see the movement under
my clothes and it sometimes skips beats, and this
alone literally drains me. I spoke to my primary care
physician about this more than once, asking her to do
an EKG, but she says this is common in leukemia
patients. I've never heard this and I was wondering if
it anyone else in the group might have the same
problem. My doctor advised me to take one of my xanax
when this occurs which does calm my heart down, but
often once the xanax has wore off, it is racing again.
I think something is going on with my heart. I also
have to go back for a catscan of my lungs as 2 nodules
appeared on my last one some 8 to 10 months ago.
Something else to worry me.

I would appreciate if anyone else has the increased
heart rate, please let me know and I'd appreciate if
you would all pray for me as I try to overcome yet
another obstacle.

Love, Peace, Hope & Prayers, Pat
