Hi Pat, I am sorry to hear of the problems you are having. I too
have been experiencing racing heartbeat, flip flops, skipped beats,
fatigue, shortness of breath, but no chest pain at all. I had
mentioned this to my local onc and the one at MDACC, niether one
really responded to me at all. Three weeks ago it was really bad so
I called my regular Dr. who is more concerned about me than either
onc that I see. They said come up right now, I had a EKG done in the
office and was sent for thyroid test and chest x-ray which both came
back normal. While I was there my heart rate was 153. I was dx with
a sinus tachycardia. He said if it happens again go to the hospital
and get a 24 hour heart monitor. That test showed that the only time
my heart rate was under 100 was when I was asleep. So I was told to
call my onc and let them know what was going on and that my Dr. was
going to send all the test results to them to see if any other tests
need to be done, because he wasn't familiar with Gleevec. I called
and did that on Monday and I haven't heard a word since. I guess I
will have to call them back just like usual. My Dr. said if it is a
sinus tachycardia it is not dangerous and that sometimes they can't
find a reason for it. I do notice if I am walking on my treadmill
or even running upstairs that will bring it on. Also the monitor
showed an occaisional skipped beats so it was nice to know it wasn't
my imagination. So far thats all I know, I haven't walked on the
treadmill since Monday and have not had any problems. If I excercise
alot it seems constant. My Dr. said they could probably treat it
with a beta blocker to slow down the heart. I will share any other
news I find out.
