The "anti-reflux" pill helps to keep from developing gastritis, an inflammation of the lining of the stomach and/or esophagus. That is another reason you want to take your Gleevec with a lot of food. My daughter has been hospitalized twice for severe gastritis since May. Because of the bloating and nausea, she was taking it at bedtime so she could sleep it off. The problem was, she was taking it without food. She was lucky she didn't develop severe ulcers and bleed. With the anti-reflux medication, she is starting to have fewer problems.
My own feelings are that if your doctor is a specialist in breast cancer, he isn't the person to treat you for CML. Go to a larger center and ask the question of how many CML patients they treat. Especially with all the choices that will soon be out of clinical trials, you want to go to someone who understands the differences between the new drugs that
will follow Gleevec.
You can call the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in your area. They keep track of the kind of blood cancers people have and where they are treated and can help with some recommendations. At least they do that here. That are a great organization.
